If you frequently experience shortness of breath or you hear a whistling or wheezy sound in your chest when you breathe, you may have asthma—a chronic condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes, the passageways that allow air to enter and leave the lungs. Asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways in the lungs. Symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. When one continually faces these asthma symptoms, he/she should get checked by the doctor as soon as possible.

But, when a person is affected by asthma, he/she has to use some medicines or find other solutions to control the disease. Although with continuous efforts in the research and development field a lot of medicines and devices like an inhaler are now in the market, which help people in reducing the effects of the disease and living a normal life.

To answer the question, what is bronchitis- it is a respiratory disease in which the mucus membrane in the lungs’ bronchial passages becomes inflamed. As the membrane swells and grows thicker, it narrows or shuts off the tiny airways in the lungs, resulting in coughing spells that may be accompanied by phlegm and breathlessness. The disease is either, acute (lasting from one to three weeks) or chronic (lasting at least 3 months of the year for two years in a row).People with asthma may also have asthmatic bronchitis, inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes.

The major triggers of an asthma attack are air pollutants and irritants, such as smoke, cold air, strong emotions and stress, sulphites and preservatives added to some types of foods and beverages, including shrimp, dried fruit, processed potatoes, beer and wine, common cold etc.

There are a lot of ways to save one selves from getting affected with asthma. Some remedies like using ginger, mustard oil, figs, garlic, coffee, eucalyptus oil, honey, onions can be used to prevent the disease. These products are very easily available in common market places, thus making it easier to incorporate them in the daily diet. Also, if anyone feels that he or she is getting affected with asthma or is experiencing some asthma symptoms, he or she should get it checked at the earliest. Because the earlier the detection, the better are the chances for a quick and effective treatment for the patient.
